the best pineapple in the world
Ananas, pineapple, is a thing here, it grows here (with a tiny bit if help from greenhouses), a lot.
Azorean Ananas is something special, and it is, quite consistently called, “The best ananas in the world”
So far I can’t disagree. Less acidic, sweet, fruity, it’s a proper treat.
Visit the pineapple plantations, and try anything Ananas (jam, liqueur, soda, candy or just plain) and learn how to properly serve one to your guests, in vertical slices, not horizontal ones.
Fun fact, I always learned “pineapple” in Portuguese is “Abacaxi”, but here it is Ananas.
I asked one of the locals why this is.
”oh no, pineapple is ‘abacaxi’ but only the imported stuff. Only from the Azores it is Ananas.”
