A second life for any fabric

I like to take old clothes and create something new.

Below you will find my rant on the ‘why’ of upcycling.

Taking the material that is still clean and intact and giving it a second life in a new garment.

All of these are unique pieces, made by hand with love.

Send me a message here or on Instagram if you want donate clothes for upcycling or if you adore one of these pieces and would love to own it.

Note: I’m happy to take items with stains or holes.
If a piece of clothing is still in great condition, consider reselling it first or throw a clothes-swap party.

Why upcycling?

For the last five years I’ve pretty much stopped buying clothes (socks and underwear excluded)
I wear what I make myself or clothes that other people don’t want anymore and would have otherwise thrown away.

Fast fashion has made buying a lot of clothes so easy.
While prices have gone down, people are not spending less money. They’re just buying more low quality items**.
It allows for mindless consumption of clothes.

A long long time ago (think 10 years ago) I went with my sister to Primark.
It made me so sad to see all the clothes there.
Not only because all of them were create in terrible conditions in the whole production chain with disregard for employees and the environment.
(which in itself should be enough not to buy from them, or other fast fashion brands, ever.)

Also because none of these items would ever be anyones favorite piece of clothing.
Why would you buy something which you’re not going to be grateful for having

Another “Fun” fact, more than 80% of donated clothes end up as landfill or incinerators**
While donating clothes seem like a better idea than throwing them away, it is, but only marginally so.

So before you buy new clothes or at the end donate your clothes think about upcycling.
Taking the material that is still clean and intact and giving it a second life in a new garment.
